The First Atlas For National Development And Food Security Launched In Iraq

BAGHDAD, March 24 (Bernama) -- Iraq's Ministry of Agriculture, in cooperation with the International Centre for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), launched the first Atlas for national development and food security in Iraq on Sunday, the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA) reported.The ministry, in a statement by its department of relations and media and international cooperation, said that the atlas is part of a project for coordinated support for the development of agriculture (harvest) that is funded by USAID.The statement quoted ICARDA's Head of the Geographic Information, Chandra Ashikhar Briadar as saying that the Atlas provides the national development and food security with a comprehensive set of information.It gives the decision-makers and the research community the information they need to develop reforms and strategies that increase agricultural productivity and reduce poverty and enhance food security, the statement added.NINA reported that the Iraqi Atlas for national development and food security contains a complete set of development data.It is the first of its kind in the Arab countries and is associated with the Arab comprehensive Atlas
