2014 BUDGET LAW DRAFT AWAITS SECOND HEARING BEFORE APPROVAL
Kurdish MPs in the Iraqi parliament are persistent on their stance to boycott parliament sessions allocated to discussing the 2014 budget law draft if the federal government does not amend the article concerned with Kurdistan Region`s share.
According to the proposed law draft, Kurdistan Region is forced to export 400,000 barrels of oil on a daily basis. If not, the Region`s %17 share of budget will be cut short.
Speculations are the law draft will be passed in common consensus by the end of the month. Still, there is possibility that the Kurds will boycott the meetings if their demands are not fulfilled.
Dr. Saman Fawzi, Kurdish MP in the Iraqi parliament, told PUKmedia, “There are currently no discussions between the political entities regarding the subject. I believe it impossible to approve the law draft until an agreement is reached.” Last year`s budget law draft was passed without the attendance of the Kurdish factions in the parliament session.
Dr. Fawzi further noted that “the parliament will not be allowed to perform the second hearing for the law draft if Kurds do not partake, leading to a delay in approving the law draft.”
