*****Iraqi Government Source: Government Embarrassed At Extent Of Iran's Interference*****
Source: Al-Mada, Iraq, August 24, 2011
*****A government source has revealed that Nouri al-Maliki's government is embarrassed by the extent of Iran's interference in the internal affairs of Iraq, including the economic and energy sectors and even in security affairs.*****
*****The embarrassment is reflected in the reluctance of the government to express its displeasure about the Iranian shelling of northern Iraq and particularly given that Iran has warned through a high-level official that it would re-open the reparations issue (for the war waged by Saddam Hussein on Iran) at the appropriate time.***** A demand for reparations could bring the collapse of the Iraqi economy which is already in bad shape.*****
[Iran has been using the reparation issue as a Damocles' Sword any time Iraq raises a major issue with Iran, such as water, join oil fields or pollution of its waterways.]
