Baghdad, Sept. 3 (AKnews) - *****A close MP to Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said Saturday***** that there is a consensus among the political forces *****that the former Interior Minister Jawad al-Bolani***** take the position of the Defence Minister.*****
Political blocs in Iraq have been in dispute over the assignment of key government positions as Maliki announced in December 2010, when the government was sworn in, that he wanted "qualified and independent" people to run his government ministries.
*****Al-Bolani seems to be the luckiest one***** to hold the position after al-Maliki rejected several candidates *****put forward by the Sunni-backed al-Iraqiya list. *****Under the political agreements struck between political blocs, *****the defence ministry is al-Iraqiya's share.*****
Salman al-Moussawi told AKnews that accepting Bolani to hold the defense ministry requires him to stay independent from partisan influences. "This is a condition agreed upon between the political blocs"
The Ministry of Defence is currently ran by the Culture Minister Saadoun al-Dulaimi, after he was assigned by the Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki last week amid criticism of Allawi's list.
Dulaimi belongs to the "Center Coalition" which recently joined the al-Iraqiya. He served as Minister of Defense in the government of Ibrahim Jaafari, 2006-2007.
The leaders of political blocs agreed at the house of President Jalal Talabani on the 2nd of this month to cancel all the names of candidates for the security ministries and nominate alternative personalities to be submitted to the Prime Minister later and quickly to resolve the file of security ministries within two weeks."
