Today, Wednesday, former MP Mohamed Ibrahim criticized the weakness of measures to prevent corruption in state departments, the
most important of which is the Tax Authority, which made investors fear its review. Ibrahim said in an interview with the Al-Ma’louma Agency,
“Iraq is at a crossroads regarding the issue of corruption and combating it.
The authorities do not resort to effective preventive measures to prevent corruption and bribery in important departments such as taxes.” He added,
"There must be attention to the tax sector as it is the most important resource after oil," pointing out that
"the investor has become afraid of reviewing the tax departments, and the
problem will continue unless it is addressed from the ground up, as
automation must be adopted in all financial details related to taxes to prevent corruption."
The former member of parliament warned that
“leaving one of the tax joints without applying automation to it will open the door to corruption and extortion,”
calling for “seeking reputable companies to implement automation projects.”
Earlier, sources reported the presence of pressure, intermediaries, and the offering of bribes to close the case of audio leaks attributed to the head of the Tax Authority, Ali Waad Allawi, in which he talks about his manipulation of tax funds. Ended 25 B
