Egypt's workers will get money soon The Egyptian Gazette Monday, May 30, 2011 04:02:02 PM CAIRO - Egypt's Manpower and Immigration Minister Ahmed el-Borai said that the Ministry would soon give Egyptians, who worked in Iraq in 1990, the money that they are owed, the Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported on Monday. | | <TR>
Some 637,000 Egyptian workers stand to benefit from this."Iraqi officials will this week work out a mechanism for paying the Egyptians the money they are owed and sending it to them," el-Borai told MENA, adding that Iraqi officials agreed to this, during his visit to Iraq last week. El-Borai stressed that the Ministry is ready to cash money orders as soon as they arrive in Egypt, making it easier for the Egyptian workers to get the wages they are owed. Egyptians working in Iraq at the time used to transfer their money to their families in Egypt via el-Rafedeen Bank, but Iraq stopped this when the First Gulf War erupted. Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1990 and Egyptian troops were among those who drove the Iraqi troops out of Kuwait. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |
