Mahmood defends death sentence Alwani and announce the closure of Russian arms file a final
Baghdad-Iraq-Presse -24 November: President of the Supreme Judicial Council Judge Medhat al-Mahmoud, defended on Monday, the decision of the death sentence on former MP Ahmad al-Alwani, while the announced closure of the investigation in the Russian arms deal file permanently.
Mahmood said at a news conference in the building of the judiciary, said that "the decision of the death sentence against Ahmed al-Alwani is a procedural rather than political," adding that "the sentences of up to more than 5 years were issued against five of the defendants cause explosive detection device."
And on the Russian arms deal investigation file Mahmood said, "The judiciary decided to close the case once and for lack of evidence against the accused in the case."
He said the "number of detainees in prisons up to the twentieth of this month amounted to 26 590 detainees, and the number of those released in the past two months, 12585," he said, adding that he issued the provisions against 498 informant secretly lying in Baghdad, as well as the number of prisoners amounted to 14 005 prisoners. "
