Maliki’s Son Arrested in Lebanon
Former Iraqi Prime Minister in Beirut to free his son
ERBIL - Iraqi former Prime Minister and current vice president of Iraq Nouri al-Maliki arrived in Lebanon in unexpected visit to free his son named Ahmed in one of the prisons in the country. The Lebanese media reported that Ahmed has been arrested in Lebanese Capital Beirut by the Lebanese security for having more than US $1.5 billion cash with him and he’s currently behind bars in one of the Lebanese capital prisons. Furthermore, since the arrival of al-Maliki in Lebanon has has been trying to free his son which among the Iraqis known as new Uday, comparing him to the notorious son of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussian. Media reports from Lebanon, Maliki has been talking to the leader of the militant Hezbollah group Hassan Nasrallah as well as pressuring Lebanon government to clear his son’s name. However, the Lebanese Justice Minister has pointed out that, former Iraqi Prime Minister Maliki must keep out of he’s son’s case. Security sources in Lebanon have mentioned that Ahmed received the money via an Iraqi bank that transferred it to one of the Lebanese banks for him. The Security sources also stated that it is not his first time, that Ahmed has recieved large amount of money from an Iraqi bank and it said that from the beginning of 2014 until now, about three billion US dollar has been sent to Ahmed in Lebanon to buy properties in the country as well as in some European countries.
