Rifts Widening among ISIL's Ranks as Iraqi Army Prepares to Attack Mosul
TEHRAN (FNA)- The recent news reports about the Iraqi army's imminent attack on the strongholds of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant has caused widening gaps among the high-ranking commanders of the terrorist group, local sources informed on Wednesday.
"The ISIL leaders have badly panicked after some media reported that the Iraqi army will soon start fresh military operations against the Takfiri terrorists' positions in Mosul, in Northern Iraq," a local source told FNA on Wednesday.
He said the Takfiri terrorist group has executed several of its senior members and commanders to stop the deepening differences among its ranks from growing into infighting.
"The ISIL executed its former governor in Mosul, Moamar Touhleh, on charges of creating rift among ISIL members through provocative moves aimed at creating conflicts between local and foreign terrorists," the source said.
He also added that an ISIL court has issued rulings for the execution of 9 ISIL members on charges of trying to escape the war.
The head of Mosul's provincial council said on Monday the Iraqi government has put together an armed force of 20,000 people to retake the province of Mosul from ISIL.
"The government has prepared its Freeing Mosul Plan, which brings together a special army of Iraqi troops, Peshmarga forces, and the Mosul governorate," Bashar Kiki said.
Kiki said that the Kurdish Peshmarga forces will be needed for the operation, and the plan might fail in their absence.
"The plan to rescue Mosul may not be implemented before spring. This is of serious concern to us, as the terrorists are, every passing day, killing people, raping women and destroying Mosul," he added.
