A source in the Ministry of Electricity said the minister Qasim Fahdawi tried lifting the pricing power to extinguish the debt owed by the ministry.
The source told ((eighth day)) that Fahdawi raise the price of electricity on the citizens to extinguish the debt owed by the ministry, amounting to more than $ 12 billion and is on the rise because of the lack of successful projects in the ministry.
The Minister of Electricity Qassim Fahdawi announced during the conference held at the parliament building with a number of members of the Oil and Energy Committee, said that "the annual expenses for this year owed by the ministry and the required repayment this year, amounting to $ 12 billion and we expect to reach $ 24 billion in 2020, with the increase in production electricity ".
He added that "balancing the federal government alone can not afford these amounts," noting that "increasing the price of electricity wages approved by the Council of Ministers was in order that the ministry can bring resources to the development of the electrical system in order to sustain throughout the day and the rationalization of consumption."
The minister said that "Iraq's production of electrical energy compared to per capita better than neighboring countries, but there are profusion of electric power," without giving further figures.
