The Islamic Republic of Iran has been increasing army personnel on the borders with the Kurdistan Region over the last two days.

This mobilisation of the Iranian army equipped with heavy weapons, is most noticeable in the areas of Sardasht and Piranshar, close to the eastern borders of the Kurdistan Region, BasNews understands.

Military experts confirmed the news and said, “The Iranian army soon is going to launch a drill on the borders with the Kurdistan Region in which heavy weapons will be used.”

Iranian Kurdish Residents, close to the proposed military drill exercise expressed concerns regarding the presence of heavy weaponry.

“We are extremely annoyed and disrupted by the loud mine explosions, loud machine gun fire and artillery and Russian-made Dshk [Doshka] machine guns”, said one of the locals.

On Wednesday, during an official visit to Kurdistan Region, Iranian Brigadier- General Ghasem Rezai outlined the situation on the border between Iran and the Kurdistan Region, and said he hoped the cooperation would continue and strengthen.

Rezai also said that borders must be tightened to improve security in both countries.
