Fall of Ramadi to ISIL ‘consequence of Obama’s failure’: McCain
19/5/2015
“This is another consequence of the failure of this administration and this president to leave a residual force behind,” he told MSNBC on Monday.
McCain added that more American combat troops are needed in Iraq due to the "terribly significant" event.
"I think it's, unfortunately, terribly significant, capital of Anbar Province, the deaths of hundreds, the displacement of thousands and thousands," he said. "We'll have to have more people on the ground and this is really serious, the fall of Ramadi."
Muhannad Haimour, the governor’s spokesman in Anbar, said on Sunday Ramadi has “fallen” to ISIL.
The terrorists claimed they had taken over the 8th Brigade army base as well as tanks and missile launchers in Ramadi.
Ramadi, which is about 100 kilometers (60 miles) west of the capital, has long been fought over.
The ISIL terrorists killed hundreds of people and forced thousands to leave their homes.
The United Nations announced the recent attacks on the Iraqi city forced about 25,000 people to flee the city.
Most of the Iraqi people escaping from the Takfiri group’s militancy and brutalities are heading toward the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, the UN office tasked with coordinating relief operations said in on Monday.
White House spokesman Eric Schultz acknowledged that the seizure represents a “setback.”
“There is no denying that this is indeed a setback,” Schultz said on Monday. "But there is also no denying we will help the Iraqis take back Ramadi.”
