Said Kuwaiti Oil Minister Ali Al-Omair, Wednesday, that the country received $ 2.97 billion from the United Nations "for the purposes of compensation for environmental damage caused by the Iraqi invasion of the country in 1990."
He was quoted by Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) the minister as saying during the National Assembly session (of parliament), that environmental compensation funds deposited with the General Authority for Investment (sovereign wealth of Kuwait Fund) in order to invest but the Governing Council of the United Nations Compensation Commission sent a note that these funds planned for business Environmental and may not be invested.
He said Omair said, "has been the transfer of these funds are being transferred to the remaining ones where local banks deposited in a subsidiary of the Kuwaiti Council of the link point management accounts for environment projects, lest there be any room for use in the field of investment exhibition of profit and loss."
