UN criticizes Iraq for failure to implement the terms of international agreements

BAGHDAD (Nasser Hussain): accused the representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations human rights in Iraq (WK) the Iraqi government not to implement most of the international conventions sponsored by the United Nations, which belong to human rights, women, prisoners and others.

He added that Iraq also ratified the four Geneva Conventions of 1949, and signed the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, making them part of the law, though not complete the process of accession to this Convention.
He added that Iraq's constitution of 2005 provides the basic guarantees of human rights, including in respect of the rule of law, equality before the law, equal opportunity, privacy, and independence of the judiciary, is that national institutions that are expected realization of these rights is still weak, despite the improvement in on the overall security situation since 2006, the situation in Iraq is still characterized by constantly indiscriminate attacks against civilians, including religious and ethnic minorities, and arbitrary arrests, and alleged that persons detained for ill-treatment, sexual violence and violence based on gender.
Furthermore , reports spread of the phenomenon of impunity on a large scale, while the access to justice is missing to a large extent due to fear of reprisals, or the lack of capacity of the institutions of the rule of law, corruption, and lack of awareness with respect to mechanisms of accountability.
