Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri has said that it’s important for the Iraqi government to have strong coordination with Turkey for any Mosul operation to free the city from Islamic State (IS). In a meeting in Iraqi capital Baghdad on Monday, al-Jabouri held talks with Turkish Ambassador to Iraq Faruk Kaymakçı. The Iraqi Parliament Speaker asked for Turkish military support and training for the Iraqi army.
Al-Jabouri said that Iraqi soldiers are preparing for the expected Mosul operation. The second largest city in Iraq, Mosul has been under the control of IS militants since June last year.
“The Iraqi forces and volunteer groups are ready for the operation, but they need more help, especially from a neighboring country like Turkey,” added al-Jabouri.
There is speculation that IS gains in Anbar Province over the last week will delay plans to liberate Mosul.
