Shiite militias barred from American training

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — US military advisers at the Habanya military base west of Ramadi have refused to train anti-ISIS Shiite militias, often called Hashd al-Shaabi, or Popular Mobilization Units (PMU).
According to an Iraqi security source who spoke to Rudaw, the 30 US advisers and 350 American soldiers at Habanya prohibited Hashd al-Shaabi fighters from even entering the military base.
“Refusing Hashd al-Shaabi forces from the Habanya military base is due to the troubles that the heads of Hashd al-Shaabi have caused for US spokesmen during military training, as a result US advisers decided to discard them,” according to the security source.
Moein Kazmy, a Hashd al-Shaab leader, meanwhile issued a statement saying the PMUs have no connection with the Americans and have had no troubles with US advisers.
