Defense Minister Meets Russian Ambassador To Baghdad

Defense Minister, Khaled al-Obeidi discussed with Ilya Murgunov Russia’s ambassador in Baghdad, the nature of bilateral relations and ways to improve cooperation in military fields.
According to a statement of the Ministry of Defense, Al-Obeidi discussed today with Murgunov the nature of the friendship between the two countries and means of improving their cooperation in military fields and to secure the need of the Iraqi armed forces in the current phase, from weapons and equipment to sustain momentum of the battle against terrorism.
They also discussed the arrangements of Obeidi’s visit to Moscow and the nature of the topics to be discussed with the Russian defense minister and Russian military leaders.
For his part, Ambassador of Russia confirmed Russia’s desire to develop relations with Iraq in all fields, including the military cooperation, stressing Russia’s consistent stand in supporting the Iraqi people in its confrontation with the forces of global terrorism, and the need to unite the international community’s efforts to support Iraq. “/ End
