The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Minister of Natural Resources, Ashti Hawrami, stated the Kurdish region in the north of Iraq has had no other choice but to sell its oil independent from Baghdad. Hawrami told Kurdish News base, Sbeiy, that Baghdad is refraining from paying the region’s clerks and Erbil has had no other way but to sell its oil independently, something it does since the beginning of June. He said the region pays its clerks from the sold oil, reiterating that the Kurdish region is not seeking to secede from Baghdad but it has had no other option. Hawrami, however, added that Erbil is ready any time to hold talks with Baghdad over disputes and differences. The chief of Oil and Energy Commission in Kurdistan Region’s local parliament, Ariz Abdullah, told a press conference that the region is selling its oil since July and Erbil has exported 559000 barrels of oil per day since then.
