Presidency commends the decision to extend the mandate of UNAMI in Iraq
/ Baghdad Source News / announced presidency, welcomed the extension of the mandate of the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), a press release to the media in the Chancellery in the presidency.
The statement said that the Presidency welcomes the vote of the UN Security Council unanimously by Wednesday, 29.07.2015 on Resolution No. 2233 of 2015 to extend the mandate of the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) for another year completed by July 31, 2016,
praising the importance of the text of the resolution that The presence of Al (Daash) terrorist on the sovereign territory of Iraq is a major threat to the future of the country and that the only way to counter the threat of (Daash) is the work of all Iraqis together to meet the security and political needs.
The statement also praised the approval of the Security Council on the recommendation of the Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon in his latest report reviewing the functions of the mission and determine the priorities and call for the International Organization also hold consultations with the Iraqi government and to submit a report containing more details about this recommendation to the Council within 90 days.
It noted the Presidency of the Republic importance of ensuring the Security Council in resolution on the need to preserve the security of UN personnel to do their work for the benefit of the people of Iraq
and calling on the Iraqi government to continue to provide security and logistical support for the United Nations presence in Iraq and UNAMI, which was formed in accordance with Security Council Resolution 1500 in 2003, building on the a request from the Iraqi side.
