Journalist Observatory demands a Syrian –Kurdish party to respect the freedom of the media

Shafaq News / Metro Centre for Journalists Rights and Advocacy condemned Saturday, all methods of prevention exercised against Rudaw satellite channel, calling for the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) to respect the freedom of the media.
A statement of the center, which is based in Sulaimaniyah province in Kurdistan region, received by Shafaq News, said that Rudaw satellite channel was prevented from covering the opening day of “Canton” al-Jazerra Office in Sulaymaniyah city.
The statement quoted Rudaw reporter that the channel had been invited in advance by Fathallah al-Husseini to cover the event, but the team was prevented by guards of the headquarters and told him that they are panned from access and coverage.
The statement added that at the eighth of current month , the channels’ reporter was also prevented from covering a demonstration in Germany.
The statement noted that Rudaw’s reporter , Ala Shali wrote a commentary in the channel site that many of the supporters of Kurdistan Workers’ Party attacked and tried to assault her and prevented her from performing her duties.
The statement added that Canton al-Jazerra administration in Syria has withdrew last week , its work permission in the district , noting in a statement that “the channel incites violence and chaos through the induction of some components in Syria against each other and publish chauvinism views.”
The statement said that the Observatory said the move by al-Jazerra Canton west of Kurdistan concern the local organizations including the US Committee to Protect journalists (CPJ)
The statement noted that Rudaw network is a part of the Kurdish media family and a licensed channel under the journalistic work law to exercise its work in the coverage of public activities freely, pointing out that no one or entity can put its media policy and it is responsible before the law for its adopted policy.
The statement said that Metro Center condemns all violations and obstacles placed in the way the work of this channel, calling the Syrian Democratic Union Party (PYD) to review the decision of banning this channel and to respect the law and freedom of the media.
