UN: Iraq plans comprehensive reforms in the security sector

The United Nations announced that it has financial support from Britain, the Netherlands, Denmark, launched today in Baghdad, the process of implementing the second phase of support for security sector reform program.
He said a UN statement received by the agency all of Iraq [where] a copy of it, "said its development program is working with the Iraqi National Security Advisor, Office of the development of a national security strategy, by supporting the reform of the security sector in the first phase of the program. Adding that the reform of the security sector in the light of the continued security challenges in Iraq is essential to peace and stability in the long term condition
The statement said that the strategy focuses on the concept of human security and promote inclusiveness and equality. He revealed the need to set up government's focus, immediate and essential, for its efforts in the development of the sector reform plan.
Added: within the framework of a joint effort between the United Nations Development Programme and the Office of the National Security Advisor, the second phase will seek ways to frame the government in the development of accountable and reasonable cost, representative and responsive security sector reflects the needs of all Iraqis and their concerns.
The statement said the expected "that the proposed plan addresses priorities, in the short, medium and long term, are required to improve the efficiency of the Iraqi security sector, effectiveness and accountability, as well as to ensure the correctional interventions coordination constructively within the framework of a central work of one. Also include the objectives of the plan, the establishment of cooperation and coordination mechanisms and strengthen the capacity of democratic supervision of the Security and Defense Committee, and increase the government's engagement with civil society, and improving the capacity of civil society in the field of security sector reform.
The statement said the office of the Iraqi National Security Advisor had been requested from the United Nations Development Programme to support the government in the development of security sector reform plan, according to the national security strategy and in line with the reform program of the government.
The statement noted that the United Nations Development Programme supports the reform of the security sector in Iraq since 2013 by virtue of his role in the broader area of support for the rule Aleghanon.anthy
