Al-Sabhan ambassador to Saudi Arabia in Iraq and al-Mahmoud consul in Erbil

Informed diplomatic sources said that the Saudi embassy in Baghdad and the new consulate in Erbil, will start their work after Eid al-Adha, as the Iraqi authorities
have ended granting visas to members of the Saudi mission last week.
According to sources told Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper on Sunday , Riyadh appointed ,Thamer bin Sabhan al- Sabhan as its ambassador and the Saudi consul in Erbil will be Abdel Moneim Mahmoud, who previously worked at the Saudi Embassy in Syria as president for nationals affairs, then went to the Saudi Embassy in Lebanon.
The sources said that the Iraqi authorities provided facilities for members of the Saudi diplomatic mission that will work there after the ending the visa procedures to Iraq, pointing out that their number is more than 40 people in all diplomatic and security sections of the Embassy.
The sources said that there is a positive interest in dealing with the acceleration of opening the Saudi embassy in Baghdad, and was welcomed by political and social elites in Iraq, after a quarter-century of diplomatic estrangement, stressing that the Saudi political action in Iraq will be after Eid al-Adha.
The sources pointed out that the Saudi consulate in Erbil will work after opening the embassy in Baghdad shortly.
The diplomatic authorities in Saudi Arabia have studied the report carried by the Saudi delegation in charge of examining the arrangements to open the embassy and the consulate in Iraq, after the delegation's arrival in Riyadh, as those files were discussed in coordination with the relevant authorities, where the comprehensive report included options, especially after Iraq provided private residence at the Saudi embassy of the diplomatic compound in the Green Zone .
