Basra, waving to sue oil companies for one reason

Twilight News / waved to the Health and Environment Committee in the Basra Governorate Council, on Monday, to sue the foreign oil companies, which holds the development and operation of oil fields in the province because of resulting from the projects of environmental pollution, citing rising cancer rates among residents of the nearby oil fields areas as a result of the worsening pollution.
Chairman of the Committee, said Haidar al-Saadi said in a statement responded to Twilight News, said that "Iraqi officials who concluded a licensing rounds with foreign oil companies did not care much environmental side, companies turn most of them did not comply with standards and environmental determinants."
He said the "oil companies contracting within the licensing rounds, mostly using old methods are harmful to the environment in the extraction of oil because it is inexpensive compared to the tummy tuck."
Saadi and pointed out that "the environmental pollution caused by oil projects has led to increased rates of cancer and diseases of the respiratory tract between residents of the nearby oil fields areas, and in some of those areas and the incidence of cancer has reached to 10%."
"The oil industry make up the backbone of the national economy, but this does not justify the threat to the safety of citizens and the destruction of the environment, and therefore must be preserved Basra environment from pollution by the failure of oil projects, especially air pollution from greenhouse gas emissions."
The Chairperson of the Committee on Health and the Environment in the provincial council that "the Council prepared a study for the violations and environmental violations committed by the oil companies, through their work," noting that "the Council going to raise some environmental violations fatal to the courts to force the oil companies, contrary to the obligation not to inflict further damage to the environment ".
