EGYPT AND OTHER COUNTRIES TO WIN FOUR NON-PERMANENT SEATS IN THE UN SECURITY COUNCIL

BAGHDAD / Center Brief for the Iraqi Media Network (IMN) - United Nations General Assembly elected on Thursday, Egypt, Japan, Senegal, Ukraine and Uruguay without opposition to the non-permanent seats of the Security Council of the United Nations for two years starting from the first January 2016.
Egypt and got 179 votes from the General Assembly, composed of 193 members while Japan got 184 to 187, Senegal, Ukraine and Uruguay to 177 on 179 votes.
These countries were chosen in advance on the basis of a territorial distribution of their seats and did not compete on any other countries.
These countries and replaced Chad, Chile, Jordan, Lithuania, Nigeria, in place of the 15 seats, including five permanent seats.
And it held the General Assembly of the United Nations, in the early morning of Thursday, a special session to carry out an electoral process "by acclamation" to choose five new non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for the years 2016 and 2017.
This is the sixth time in the history of Egypt, has already occupied the membership of the Council during the periods: 1946 (1949/1950), and (1961/1962), and (1984/1985) and (1996/1997).
The Senegal has obtained the membership of the Council twice before in 1968/1969, and 1988/1989.

Uruguay did not get only once in the membership of the Council (1965/1966), while Ukraine got membership three times during the periods (1948/1949), and (1984/1985), and (2000/2001).
