TEHRAN (FNA)- Prime Minister of Iraqi Kurdistan region Nechirvan Barzani in a meeting with Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani in Tehran said that the KRG is trying to reconcile with the central government in Baghdad. "Despite problems caused by the presence of Iraqi and Syrian refugees and the falls in oil prices, the Iraqi Kurdistan region is making good economic and social progress and is looking forward to getting reunited with the ruling administration in Iraq," the Kurdish top official said on Monday. Hailing the Iranian government for supporting the Iraqi Kurdistan region, Barzani said that "the officials and people of Iraqi Kurdistan autonomous administration will never forget the generous services and support of their Iranian brothers during the toughest times." Barzani also met Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani on Sunday, where Larijani announced that establishment of security in the Kurdistan region is of paramount importance to Tehran. "Your conditions are highly difficult since you should fight against your enemy, the ISIL, on one hand, and resolve the internal issues, on the other hand," Larijani said during the meeting in Tehran.
Stressing that the Iraqi Kurdistan region should work out an internal consensus in order not to allow enemies like ISIL misuse their conditions, he said, "Establishment of internal security in Iraqi Kurdistan region is an important issue which shouldn’t be ignored."
Barzani, for his part, appreciated Iran for its aids and counseling services to the Iraqi Kurdistan region, and said, "The ISIL is our main enemy in the region and of course, we have been able to decrease its power through cooperation in the region and set free many regions to the Mosul borders."
In relevant remarks on Saturday, Barzani appreciated Iran's key and pioneering role in helping the Kurdish people of Iraq to suppress the ISIL terrorists.
"Iran has played a very positive role during the ISIL attack on Iraq's Kurdistan region," Barzani told FNA on the sidelines of the preliminary meeting of the Munich Security Conference in Tehran.
Barzani's remarks came in reaction to certain allegations that Iran has had a negative role in fighting the ISIL.
"Iran was among the first countries that helped us and after that Iran also played a positive role in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region's political developments," Barzani added
