ERBIL, Iraqi Kurdistan--Today’s meeting between Kurdistan’s opposition groups and the authorities ended without reaching any final agreement.
The second round of talks was held between the three opposition groups and the two ruling parties in the parliament building in Erbil. The meeting lasted two hours and at the end it was announced to hold the third round by 18-20 of June.
The opposition groups presented three new packages of suggestions in addition to six packages they had presented in Saturday, June 4 meeting.
In a press conference following the meeting, Jaafar Ibrahim, a spokesperson for the politburo of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) said, “because the opposition delivered three new packages of recommendations we will need to discuss its details among members of our politburo and therefore for another 10 days there won’t be any more meetings.”
In today’s meeting both sides also recommended that the “media war” between the parties must cease.
Muhammed Hakim, member of the Islamic Group’s politburo said at the press conference, “The KDP and the PUK have formed a committee of their own to discuss our recommendations and if need be we will be in touch with them for cooperation.”
At the end of the conference Jaafar Ibrahim from KDP’s politburo said, “We haven’t come here to talk about what happened yesterday. We are here to improve our relations and speak of reform.”
