The fourth agro-food trade fair will open in Erbil next week with 350 companies from 21 countries coming to put their products on show.
Aziz Ibrahim, director of trade in the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG)’s Ministry of Trade and Industry, told a news conference in Erbil on Thursday that there were new companies among the participants, coming to exhibit for the first time.
AKnews reports that the opening of the fair was part of the KRG ministry of agriculture’s effort to boost the region’s agriculture in a bid to become self-sufficient.
Anwar Omar, director of planning in the Ministry of Agriculture, said, “the Ministry of Agriculture is attempting to increase local agriculture production to where it was in the mid-1980s when the agricultural products of Kurdistan Region wer sufficient for all Iraq”.
