{Baghdad: Al-Furat News} The Ministry of Oil affirmed its keenness on optimal investment of associated gas and free gas through a national effort in cooperation with sober international companies.
The Undersecretary for Distribution Affairs, Hamid Yunus, said in a statement, which Al-Furat News Agency received a copy of, that "the amount of associated gas currently invested and resulting from oil production operations amounts to (1500) million standard cubic feet (muqamq)," explaining that
"the total production of associated gas and the output Of the oil extraction operations, it amounts to (2,700) muqm."
He pointed out, "The ministry's plans aim to fully invest the remaining quantities of (1200) Mqmq through projects under implementation and completion and it is hoped that this will be done by the end of the year 2023, so that the ministry has completed the full investment of the produced quantities of associated gas and the elimination of burning operations.
The agent pointed out that "the ministry has plans to invest free gas from the Mansouriya field in Diyala governorate and Akkas field in Anbar governorate, which were referred to in the licensing rounds, but due to the security situation and the fight against ISIS terrorist gangs, the contracting companies did not initiate the development process," explaining the ministry.
One of the international companies specialized in manufacturing and investing gas in the two fields.
Yunus added that "the gas reserves of Iraq amount to 132 trillion cubic feet," noting that
"the ministry is keen on optimal investment of associated gas and free gas to meet the country's needs of gas energy to secure the uses of electric power generation, petrochemical industries and other industrial fields."
He added that "the remaining amount of associated gas investment is carried out through the implementation of the associated gas investment project at the Nasiriyah processing plant with a capacity of 200 workers and in the Halfaya field in Maysan governorate to invest 300 workers.
It is hoped that the two projects will end at the end of 2022, in addition to the Artawi Basra gas project for investment. 400 submitters and the Artawi South Gas Project, to invest 300, will be completed by the end of 2023.
It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Oil announced in 2016 that it would achieve self-sufficiency in producing liquid gas and export quantities in excess of the country's need to provide additional financial resources to the federal treasury.
