The economic expert, Nabil Al-Marsoumi, revealed, on Sunday (December 27, 2020), the percentage of the increase in the number of employees in the last two years (2019-2020).
Al-Marsoumi said in a post on his Facebook page that he (Baghdad Today) followed, "The number of permanent staff increased to 3.250 million employees, an increase of 315,000 employees, an increase of 11% over the year 2019, of which 172,000 degrees were created in 2019 and 109,000 degrees. Updated in 2020 and 34,000 degrees updated in 2021."
He added that "this large increase in the number of employees is consistent with the behavior of the rentier state in Iraq, which seeks to create public jobs to absorb some of the unemployed."
He continued, "This increase came as a result of the state’s failure to build and create an appropriate economic environment that leads to the creation of many job opportunities to absorb millions of unemployment in Iraq,
especially unemployment among young people who increase annually at high rates and enter the labor market that is characterized by widespread unemployment and underemployment."
