The Ministry of Agriculture, in cooperation with various types of security agencies, intensified efforts aimed at preventing the entry of agricultural products smuggled from outside the borders,
stressing that those measures that began since last Saturday are mainly aimed at protecting the local product and supporting farmers,
calling at the same time, the judiciary to issue Decisions that would support that national campaign.
The Minister of Agriculture, Muhammad al-Khafaji, said in an interview with the Iraqi News Agency, which was followed by "Al-Eqtisad News", that the campaign to pursue smugglers contributed to the arrest of dozens of violating trucks, indicating the imposition of an income tax on the importer, pointing out that
“the ministry's campaign began in all provinces through foreign controls and markets.
The wholesale sale of vegetables, which led to the arrest of many trucks loaded with materials, from which Iraq was able to achieve self-sufficiency.
He added, "The campaign has achieved very good results that encouraged farmers to preserve the costs of their crops and reduce the large losses due to smuggling."
In turn, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Agriculture, Hamid Al-Nayef, confirmed that "the operations that the ministry began implementing in cooperation with the various types of security forces are part of the prime minister's directives to support the local product."
Al-Nayef said, "The campaign, which began last Saturday, has achieved great and important results, and that the security forces have taken control of many outlets, which were witnessing the entry of smuggled agricultural products, including the control of Al-Sabhan separating the region and Mosul, which was witnessing the entry of imported products," Which enables Iraq to achieve self-sufficiency from them ».
Al-Nayef expressed his hope that this campaign would witness the support of the Iraqi judiciary by issuing decisions that would support the directions of the Ministry of Agriculture in limiting the entry of smuggled products, pointing out that the
