The Vice Chairman of the Oil, Gas and Natural Resources Committee, Ali Al-Machkoor, revealed, on Wednesday, that
Iraq has incurred losses amounting to 12 trillion dinars annually as a result of licensing rounds, indicating that
the committee will work to amend them during the next stage.
Al-Machkour said, in an interview seen by / the information /, that "the licensing rounds contracts are nothing but (a clever mistake), and
Iraq's only gain is for the working staff to benefit from global expertise and work according to the system of internationally known oil companies."
He added, "The licensing rounds contracts are ambiguous, and we seek to review them to study the possibility of correcting them in a way that does not harm the country's interest, so that Iraq does not become an environment expelling investment," noting that
"the licensing rounds are contracts of submission and wrong implementation and planning, and the general benefit of the country through them does not exceed 10%,
In addition, it did not serve the oil-producing governorates.
Al-Maskoor explained, “The committee in charge of regulating contracts neglected the pollution resulting from the emissions of extracted oil, and for this
we are witnessing many diseases related to this issue, such as cancer and respiratory diseases,” noting that
“the committee will communicate with all oil companies while setting new standards for work, and seeking to allocate funds for treatment.
Those affected by the process of extracting oil and gas carried out by companies within the oil-producing governorates, and obligating all companies to do so.”
