“Through Wind and Waste Recycling”..Electricity announces several projects to support the national system

National News Center/ Baghdad

Today, Saturday,
the Ministry of Electricity announced its most prominent expected projects to support the national system with new cards, while confirming the work to establish generating stations through wind and waste recycling.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Electricity, Ahmed Moussa, said in a statement to the National News Center that

"the ministry signed contracts with international companies to establish solar power plants, and was keen to distribute them to all governorates of Iraq in coordination with local governments and governors."

Moussa added, "The ministry has other projects that it intends to work on in cooperation with the Municipality of Baghdad and local governments, including waste recycling stations, as two sites were chosen, one in the Abu Ghraib area and the other in the Nahrawan area," stressing that

"there is coordination and a joint work record with the Baghdad Municipality to establish these stations.

He pointed out that "there are other projects that the ministry intends to pursue, including the installation of wind energy production stations in the Shehabi area in coordination with the Ministry of Science and Technology, as it determines the wind speed," noting that

"this whole issue needs a set of determinants that ministries other than electricity are looking for."

He stressed that "the Ministry of Electricity is open to diversifying energy sources significantly, whether it is wind, solar energy, or even waste recycling, taking into account its progress in improving, strengthening and rehabilitating the sectors of production plants that depend on gas and fossil fuels."

He explained that "the Al-Shihabi area in Wasit Governorate is the only one that can be qualified to proceed towards the installation of wind farms or stations," noting that

"there are a number of measures that are taken with the concerned authorities, in addition to the need for government decisions to proceed with these stations."

On Iraq's need for Iranian gas, Moussa said, "The ministry relies on Iranian gas to generate about 7-8 thousand megawatts, and the volume of gas currently supplied is 40 million cubic meters per day, and this does not fill the need."

He continued, "The actual need for gas ranges from 50-55 million cubic meters, and we had an agreement with the Iranian side based on the payment of dues and debts owed by Iraq since 2020, in addition to the dues payable from the year 2020 that the Iranian side stipulated in order to continue paying gas.".

He pointed out that "the current government and ministry paid these dues based on internal borrowing from the Trade Bank of Iraq and a government decision," noting that

"the ministry is coordinating with the Iranian side and has contacts to increase gas releases for the benefit of the stations."

He noted that "there are stations whose work requires fuel, and new generating stations to which gas is not supplied sufficiently, and they will be operated upon the arrival of sufficient quantities of gas to give additional impetus to the national system through additional capacities, which leads to an increase in operating hours."
