BAGHDAD (Iba) .. national security adviser, said Faleh Al-Fayad that NATO recommended three days before the withdrawal of the training mission in Iraq after the Iraqi government refused to give soldiers immunity.
Fayad said in a statement to Agence France-Presse, on board the plane carrying Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki to Washington: We regret that the NATO mission recommended the withdrawal from Iraq three days before, because the immunity is nothing outside the validity of the Iraqi government.
Fayad said: We respect this decision and I was hoping that there will be cooperation with NATO within other frameworks, not only through its mission in Iraq, as we hope to keep this mission.
He continued: We had a large margin of negotiation about the possibility of survival beyond the end of the NATO mission by the end of the year 2011, but the alliance last surprised us with this decision. (End)
