US Ambassador: Iraqis' bank accounts rose 31%

Today, Tuesday (January 23, 2024), the United States Ambassador to Iraq, Elena Romanowski, revealed that Iraqis’ bank accounts have increased to 31% in just two years. Romanowski said in her tweet on the “X” website:
“Data from the Central Bank of Iraq indicates that the total deposits held with Iraqi commercial banks increased by about 37% during the past two years, and from 2021 to 2022, the total number of people with a bank account in Iraq increased.” Local banks by 31%. She added:
“It is amazing progress! “By working with Iraq on reforms, we contribute to building confidence in the banking sector, as modern banking services enable greater foreign investment and protect funds from financial crimes, theft and loss.”

Bank accounts grew by 14 percent, reaching 10.02 million bank accounts by September 30, 2023, after there were more than 8.79 million accounts at the end of 2022,
which means the creation of more than 1.2 million accounts within 9 months, according to specialists.
Current accounts also grew by 17.7 percent to reach 3.54 million accounts,
savings accounts grew by 11 percent to reach 5.55 million accounts, while
fixed deposit accounts grew by 4.6 percent to reach 236.8 thousand accounts, and
corporate accounts increased by 5 percent to reach To 688.7 thousand accounts.
