Parliamentary Finance: We will stand against those who oppose the automation of taxes and customs

The Chairman of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Atwan Al-Atwani, confirmed today, Wednesday, that he stands against those who oppose the implementation of the tax and customs automation system.
The media office of the Chairman of the Finance Committee in the House of Representatives stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that “
the committee hosted the Minister of Finance, Taif Sami, and the directors of taxes and customs.” During the hosting, Al-Atwani pointed out - according to the statement –
“activating and maximizing non-oil revenues, and this is one of the priorities of the government program,” saying:
“We will stand against everyone who opposes the implementation of the tax and customs automation system alongside the Ministry of Finance, and
we will not allow it to be disrupted.
We strongly support the Ministry of Finance’s intention to implement Automation at all border crossings, and
we will hold technical meetings to find out the reasons, obstacles, and problems that stand in the way of implementing the automation system, and
we will hold those who are negligent accountable.” He added,
"The tax base must be expanded and its sources diversified, but not at the expense of the citizen.
Taxes and fees are not levied except by law and are not exempted except by law.
We will review all exemptions and the extent of the benefit sought or achieved from them," continuing,
"The Finance Committee will submit a detailed report that will be presented in The House of Representatives regarding taxes and customs to support the government in implementing the automation system, and
we will hold joint workshops with the tax and customs authorities to review the tax laws and amend them in line with the new system.”
