The Ministry of Agriculture has adopted a number of effective steps and procedures with the aim of exploiting the abundance of production and investing it in food manufacturing, indicating that
this matter will be followed by a more important step related to the trend to export these manufactured products abroad, and while it made clear that Iraq possesses the ingredients that qualify it to be the first Arab in the field of food manufacturing.
She indicated that she is working to establish agricultural marketing companies for the purposes of sorting, packing and packaging.
Earlier, the Ministry of Agriculture revealed that it had taken a series of measures with the aim of supporting the farmer and increasing production yields, indicating that
the measures included zeroing customs duties on farmers’ imports from modern irrigation systems, distributing seeds with support of up to 70% of the upper ranks, in addition to allowing the private sector to import Fertilizers through agricultural associations and agricultural offices, including urea and DAP.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Mahdi Al-Jubouri, said in an exclusive interview with Al-Sabah that
there is a close relationship between agricultural production and food industries, as
agricultural production is an input to food manufacturing, stressing that the
Ministry has adopted a strategy that ensures the provision of agricultural goods and products such as tomato paste, soybeans, and sunflower oils. In addition to date manufacturing operations. Al-Jubouri stated that
it is possible to manufacture agricultural commodities and add value to these products in general by converting them from raw materials to manufactured materials and exporting the surplus, pointing out that
there is a technical problem related to the agricultural marketing process in general and the food manufacturing process, related to the decrease in their prices during seasons of abundance compared to countries.
The reason is the abundance of supply in a period of time that depends on the production life of agricultural crops, meaning that their productive life is short. Al-Jubouri continued that
during times of “a great abundance of local agricultural products that exceed the demand, then there is an investment opportunity to carry out the food manufacturing process and transform these products into food factories and benefit from them locally or export them abroad, as well as establishing agricultural marketing companies for the purposes of packing, sorting and packaging.” He stated that the
food manufacturing process provides manufactured agricultural products to meet the country’s needs locally, as importing food industries from abroad costs the country millions of dollars.
