BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq : Iraqi premier Nouri al-Maliki said today that "the federal system is available in the constitution, and worldly workable, but the situation here is different".
In a statement issued by his office, Maliki met a number of tribal sheikhs and elderly personalities of Salahuddin province.
He disclosed that the central government is working on granting more privileges to provincial councils.
"The call now is an attempt to divide the country on sectarian basis, but our country is united, thus the division will not work", he confirmed.
Maliki spoke on the new role of Iraq in the region and the world, and the need to resort to reconstruction and provision of services to the whole segments of the society.
He stressed imposing justice so that "no one feels neglected".
Tribal Sheikhs of Salahuddin confirmed supporting the government in its efforts for the unity of Iraq and its components.
All speakers talked on "the importance of consolidating security and stability before talking on establishing regions, because time is not ripe".
