BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Iraq's Interior Ministry in Baghdad has demanded the Kurdistan Interior Ministry in Arbil, to hand over Vice-President, Tariq al-Hashimy and 14 of his bodyguards and employees, according to the decision of the Judiciary, the semi-official al-Iraqiya Satellite TV Network reported on Sunday.
The TV network quoted the Iraqi Interior Ministry as having demanded the Interior Ministry of northern Iraq's Kurdistan Region, to "cooperate with it in handing over Tareq al-Hashimy and 14 of his bodyguards and employees, according to arrest warrants, issued against them by the Iraqi Judiciary and Investigation Judges, according to the Iraqi Law's Article 4 - Terrorism."
Noteworthy is that Iraq is witnessing a major political crisis in the background of charges against its Vice-President and Leader in al-Iraqiya Alliance, led by former Prime Minister, Iyad Allawi, with having been involved in "terrorist" acts, according to which an arrest warrant had been issued to arrest and detain him, along with a decision, issued by Prime Minister, Nouri al-Malilki, to withdraw trust from his Deputy Prime Minister, Saleh al-Mutlaq, also an al-Iraqiya leader.
The crisis that took place along with several explosive acts that killed and injured dozens of people in Baghdad and other Iraqi provinces over the past few days, had taken place following severe differences between the State of Law Alliance, led by PM Maliki, and al-Iraqiya Alliance, led by Iyad Allawi, after one year that had passed on the formation of the current government, amid differences between both Alliances on the candidates for the Defense Minister, assigned for al-Iraqiya and the Interior Minister, assigned for the State of Law.
