Agencies: Defence Minister George Leon Panetta Sunday that the U.S. would "respond" if Iran sought to close the Strait of Hormuz, the strategic waterway for oil transportation, noting that "red line" should not be missed.
Panetta said the program "Face the Nation" (Face the Nation) for the CBS television: "We were very clear when we said that the United States will not tolerate the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. It is a red line for us and we will respond to it." Has escalated tensions between Tehran and Washington Tuesday after Iranian military maneuvers with warnings to Tehran from the American naval presence in the Gulf, raising fears of a possible closure of the Straits of Hormuz through which 35% of global oil production source by sea.
