BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Iraq’s Parliament Speaker, Usama al-Nujeify, has expressed support for the efforts of Iraqi President, Jalal Talabani, to put an end for the crisis and tension, overwhelming the political arena nowadays, a statement by Nujeify’s office reported on Saturday.
"Nujeify has expressed, in a meeting with Talabani on Thursday, support for the steps that had been taken to put an end for the current political crisis and tension, and to ease out the circumstances, to serve the interests of the country,” the statement pointed out.
It quoted Nujeify as having expressed the Parliament’s support for the “President’s efforts, calling for opening a serious dialogue, in order to bring closer the viewpoints among the political forces and to implement their previous agreements, as well as necessity to boost the national dialogue, its deepening and pacifying the atmospheres, as well as putting an end for the differences, in such a way that serves the interests of the Iraqi people."
Noteworthy is that the political crisis, taking place in the country since more than 14 months between the State of Law and al-Iraqiya Coalitions, had been escalated after the demonstrations that took place in central Baghdad’s al-Tahrir Square on 10/6/2011, and the opposite pro-government demonstrations that demanded the execution of the criminals, who implemented al-Dujeil Crime and accounting the politicians who had been behind it.
Al-Iraqiya Coalition, on its part, had considered the campaign as having been targeted against it and its Leader, Iyad Allawi, as well as instigating sectarianism and aimed at restoring Iraq back to the atmospheres of tension that took place in the years 2006 and 2007.
The crisis had entered a new phase, after the statements launched by al-Iraqiya Leader, Iyad Allawi, in which he launched an attack against elements of al-Daawa Party, led by Prime Minister Maliki, and warning against the restoration of the policy of “keeping mouths shut down and the imposition of a new dictatorship.”
Maliki’s al-Daawa Party, on its part, had announced its intension to raise a judicial case against Allawi, for his accusations against the Party and its members.
