BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: The Iraqi Foreign Ministry on Saturday has demanded Turkey, Iran and some Arab States to respect Iraq's sovereignty, after the complete withdrawal of the American Forces from Iraq that took place at the end of last month, confirming that "Iraq won't become an arena for the settlement of accounts among different parties," according to a Ministry statement.
"The Iraqi government was successful in implementing the withdrawal of the American Forces from the country before the end of 2011 according to the Strategic Agreement signed between the two countries," the statement noted.
"Iraq is prepared to play its role in the [Middle East] Region and the World, as well as its striving to liberate itself from the rules of the UN Charter 7, which imposes economic sanctions against Iraq," the statement continued.
"The country's security potentials will continue to be developed to confront terrorism; since the beginning of the new year we have been faced with statements and positions by leading officials in neighborly states, reflecting interference in Iraq's internal affairs, non-respect of Iraqi sovereignty and the government elected by the people," the statement said.
"Iraq will never become a follower for anybody and will not become a chess board in the game of others or an arena for the settlement of accounts of other parties," it highlighted.
"Friendly and neighborly states, especially Turkey, Iran and some sisterly Arab States, should respect the sovereignty and independence of Iraq, help its elected national government and people to overcome the security, political and development challenges confronting it, and to become a supporter and not a guardian of our country," the statement concluded
