BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Chairman of the Iraqi Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee, Humam Hammoudi, has uncovered the close holding of the preparatory sessions for the Conference to “Activate the Mecca Document,” signed by the religious leaders of Iraq in Jedda, Saudi Arabia, in 2006, which he described as “representing a guarantee for non-return of sectarian violence to the country, according to a statement, issued by his office on Thursday. The statement pointed out that Hammoudi had conferred on Wednesday with the Ambassador of the Islamic Conference in Iraq, Hamid Ali al-Tunni, quoting Hammoudi as saying during the meeting that “the preparatory committee is striving seriously to complete the meetings to hold the Conference for Activating the Mecca Document, calling by Iraq’s religious clergymen to activate the Mecca Document. It added that the “meeting had discussed the significance of holding a meeting by the Iraqi Parliament to ratify the Document, hopeful to be signed by Iraq and the Islamic Conference Organization,” stressing that “both sides have also discussed the main issues and political developments in Iraq, its neighborly and Islamic arena.” “Both sides have also discussed the issue of ‘Najaf, the Capital of Islamic Culture in 2012,’ confirming necessity that the Conference outlines the real face for Najaf’s historic, Inheritance and Great Islamic background,” the statement concluded.
