BAGHDAD, Jan 30 (KUNA) -- Chairman of the Executive Council of the United Nations Compensation Commission (UNCC) Hanov Schumacher arrived here Monday to discuss a number of sticking points with the Iraqi government.
Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari received Schumacher and his entourage who include the commission's Executive Secretary Mojtaba Gazzaza, a statement by the Foreign Ministry said without elaborating on the issues raised.
Created in 1991 as an offshoot of the United Nations Security Council, the UNCC is mandated to process claims and pay compensation for losses and damage suffered as a result of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait (1990-1991) including the loss of life, and the material and environmental damage.
