Baghdad (AIN)- President Jalal Talabani during this evening meeting with the Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Ben Helli said he "would continue his efforts to hold a national conference that would put a road map for the future of the country."
In a presidential statement received by All Iraq News agency (AIN) Talabani said "Iraq's desire to strengthen joint Arab action and strengthen ties with Arab countries, which serves as the Arab issues and bilateral relations.
He said that "This Arab gathering is not important for Iraq only but for the entire Arab world, Iraq was one of the founders of Arab League, and still has important role in Arab issues, and the closer Iraq from the Arab family, they come closer to it."
He added "Obviously the Arab League to play important role in this approachement, which was keen as we are to strengthen the joint Arab work," emphasizing "Iraq intentions to strengthen its relationship with all brotherly Arab countries."
Concerning the latest developments on the Iraqi arena, President Talabani said that the efforts are ongoing among the parties for resolving the problems and to reach understandings that will unite Iraq.
He also announced that he will continue his efforts to hold a national conference that would put a road map for the future of the country.
The President Talabani during the meeting, gave detailed explanation of the political situation in Iraq and expressed his gratitude for the tireless efforts exerted for the success of the Arab Summit to be held in Baghdad at the end of next March.
For his part, the Assistant Secretary General of the Arab League thanked President Talabani for the full explanation about the Iraqi political scene, and emphasized the "prestigeous value of Iraq in the Arab family," and praised the central role of President Talabani, on the Iraqi and Arab arenas.
Ben Helli said "When the issues gets tough, the president Talabani leads the decisive role to bring the parties to resolve issues, he comes by his long history and political experience as well as his correct opinion putting the interests of Iraq in his forehead projects."
Ben Helli, confirmed that he noted the readiness and sufficient Iraqi preparations for the summit work and ensure its success, he explained that the Arab League wants to be a distinguished summit, and come out decisively resolutions to end the disputes and problems.
