Iraq stresses security measures on the border with Syria

Iraq began the implementation of strict security measures along the border between Iraq and Syria, for the purpose of preventing the infiltration of armed groups in Iraq.
Said Colonel Faisal Alkhlafawi, from the leadership of the border guards in Anbar, said that these measures "is a step in the exemplary process of repelling any infiltration of terrorist elements that may exploit the internal situation in Syria for the infiltration of Iraqi territory."
He said in an interview with Alkhlafawi my home that these measures are also aimed to "thwart any plan could threaten the security and sovereignty of the country."
He explained that the security measures included the installation of more than 18 new control tower and installation of surveillance cameras and the recent addition of a number of security agents stationed in the monitoring and follow-up inspection of border areas and the use of aviation.
He added that the measures also include the sweep of Western Sahara in the province of Anbar, valleys, plateaus and rugged areas and to continue monitoring them by the security services and to identify entrances and exits of each zone to ensure the full protection of border security.
