BAGHDAD, Feb.10 (AKnews)- The Iraqi Army agreed for the Interior Ministry to undertake the security of the Abu Ghraib district, west of Baghdad.
Abdul-Kareem al-Zarb, head of the Security Committee at Baghdad Provincial Council, told AKnews today that the agreement is in line with a previous deal for the phase after the U.S. forces withdrawal.
He added the agreement will be enforced in the coming few days.
The arrangement is announced only a day after the Tribal Council of the district demanded the government to deploy more security forces in the district and expedite efforts to return the displaced people to Abu Ghraib.
The district is still a challenge for the Iraqi forces as the al-Qaeda militants are still active in the area.
The U.S. forces and the Iraqi security have labeled Abu Ghraib one of the most volatile spots. The sixth Iraqi army division is now in control of the district.
Zarb said after the Interior Ministry took over, it will deploy more forces.
