According to a report from AKnews, the Iraqi Ministry of Planning has decided to continue working with the Swiss-based company SGS until the end of February.

Abdul Zahra al-Hindawi, a ministry spokesman, said the decision was taken in response to the demands of businessmen and importers until the completion of their commercial dealings with the company.

We reported recently that the company’s contract to operate the pre-importation inspection, testing and certification scheme (ICIGI) under Iraq’s Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control (COSQC) had been terminated.

The decision to cancel reportedly still stands, but the extention to the end of the month is to allow the completion of some legal and administrative tasks.

The spokesman added that the work of SGS was not up to the required level agreed during the contract period, reports AKnews.

The ministry previously said that six companies are competing to replace SGS.
