A large housing project is under construction in Basra that will provide homes for 1850 Iraqi families, said head of Basra Investment Commission Khalaf Badran.
The project will cost $107 million and it is the largest in the province, Badran said.
The project is named “Palm Leave” because its designed in the shape of a leave of a palm tree.
Badran said an Iraqi property firm had won the contract to implement the project following bidding in which foreign firms took part.
The project covers 227 donums ( a donum in Iraq is around 2,250 square meters) with 90 buildings each with four floors.
The housing complex will be furnished with modern amenities.
