BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Al-Iraqiya Bloc on Wednesday welcomed the decision made by Saudi Arabia to name an ambassador to Iraq, the first in more than two decades.
"Al-Iraqiya welcomes the Saudi decision which will strengthen and foster bilateral relations," official spokesperson of the bloc, Mayson al-Damlouji, said in a statement received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
"The bloc also urges to exchange accusations, which could harm relations with neighboring countries," she added.
Saudi Arabia decided Tuesday to appoint an ambassador in Baghdad after for the first time after 22 years.
Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari said the new ambassador will arrive in Baghdad soon to submit his credentials.
Saudi Arabia has nominated its ambassador to Jordan Fahd ben Abdel-Mohsen al-Zeid as a non-resident ambassador to Iraq.
Saudi Arabia has not had an ambassador to Iraq since 1990, the year in which Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait.
The foreign affairs committee of the Iraqi parliament took this as a sign that Gulf state will take part in the upcoming Arab Summit in Baghdad.
It is a positive step toward boosting bilateral relations, said committee member Yassin Majeed.
