BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Usama al-Nujiefi, received on Wednesday UNDP Iraq Country Director Peter Batchelor, with whom he discussed the UN's role in developing the parliament’s capabilities, according to a parliamentary statement.
“The country is witnessing an important stage to complete all institutions and amending the constitution,” the statement quoted al-Nujiefi as saying, highlighting the importance of the UN role in developing the parliament’s capabilities and highlighting the importance of the human rights issues.
For his part, Batchelor said “the UN seeks to strengthen its partnership and cooperation with Iraq”, considering the parliament as an important institution to boost democracy in Iraq.
